With the tremendous growth and interest in the SocialCycling® program over the last few months, we stop to touch base with Ian Radzichowsky a Certified Environmental Practitioner in Waste Management (CCEP) with the Canadian Environmental Certification Approvals Board and one of the architects of the SocialCycling Certification process on why SocialCycling differs from other reclamation and reuse programs.

Posted by Jason Warnock on May 27 at 10:00 AM Mercer released their world wide rankings on the top “Eco-City” and “Quality of Living” cities this week and a surprising choice led the Eco-City rankings; Calgary the oil and gas hub for Canada and the corporate head of all things oil sands.

Working Towards GreenBuild 2010

Posted by Jason Warnock on May 25 at 2:00 PM After years of working with clients navigating the ins and outs of the LEED rating system it is certainly very interesting to step across the other side of the looking glass and work directly with the Unites States Green Building Council (USGBC). Growth of the Microagency: an interview with DMD Network CEO Rowland Hobbs

Posted by Jason Warnock on May 19 at 10:00 AM I am often asked where does DMD Green fit into the DMD Network?  How does sustainable consulting and things like SocialCycling® work with a network of PR, Design and Advertising Agencies?  This week I had an opportunity to do a little Q&A with DMD Network CEO Rowland Hobbs on the growth of DMD Green (www.dmdnetwork.com), I felt it was only fair then to turn the tables on him and get his thoughts on the growth of Microagencies and his experiences working in the fast lane of social marketing. Green Mother's Day

Posted by Jason Warnock on May 7 at 12:00 PM After our successful Earth Day Challenge this month, it got me thinking about other events and holidays and what I could be doing to make these days a little “greener” as well.

With Mother’s Day right around the corner what are some other tips we could all use to be a little more earth conscious this May 9th.

Are we Paperless or Clueless?

Posted by Jason Warnock on August 23 at 8:00 PM If I asked 10 modern office types about the idea of a “paperless” office and when, in their opinion, was the peak of our paper use in the office, what do you think they would guess? Surely the late 80’s? Perhaps any time in the not too distant past without email, all those letters being sent, memos, that must have used way more paper than now... Right? Or maybe the 60’s with the “Mad Men” style offices, four secretaries for every writer, all that typing and re-typing. Right?

Adbusters pokes the bear

Posted by Jason Warnock on March 12 at 12:00 PM The “Endgame Strategies” Issue of Adbusters points its cheeky finger at the Alberta downstream oil sand producers with an amusing spoof ad on the overused concept that “Green is the New Black”.  Touting the charming URL; albertatarsandsarecleansojustrelaxbecausegreenisthenewblack.com, Adbusters has thumbed its collective nose at Alberta big oil and continues to expose the ongoing failure of the oil sand PR machine.

Energy Efficiency begins at the Window

Posted by Jason Warnock on March 2 at 2:00 PM As the new economic stimulus package goes into law and the nearly $20 billion earmarked for programs like improving the efficiency of government buildings and the homes of the poor stays  focused at trying to find better ways to save energy, perhaps the easiest place to start is at the window.  Topics: energy, sustainability        0 Comments Read Full Post

Alberta PR Machine spins too slowly for Obama’s Canadian Visit

Posted by Jason Warnock on February 19 at 6:00 PM With US President meeting with Prime Minister Stephen Harper today to discuss the oil sands and the current Canadian initiatives to cap and sequester the carbon emissions of this perceived “dirty oil”, Alberta’s public relations reacts with new rules on water and site reclamation.  Too little too late? "Social-Cycling"

Posted by Jason Warnock on February 13 at 12:00 PM As marketers our environmental efforts are often focused on the material and carbon contribution of our products or services.  There are numerous green rating systems out there that tell us what the total VOC content is or the post-consumer recycled content or even the carbon dioxide contribution based on transport and production.  Are we missing out on perhaps and even more important one, how can our materials affect and quite possibly improve the lives of people around the world? Alberta's "Dirty Oil" is in Obama's Sights

Posted by Jason Warnock on February 9 at 2:00 PM With President Obama's campaign talk of Alberta's oil sands as an "open question" in regards to how this will fit in to the new US cleaner energy plan, Canada's most oil rich province should take notice.  As the oil sand process of extraction often produces 3X as much carbon as traditional drilling the commitment of Alberta's upstream development companies should be focused on finding cleaner ways to do business. Last In... First Out

Posted by Jason Warnock on February 7 at 1:00 PM What does a reverse order inventory evaluation have to do with sustainability?  Unfortunately for the Hospitality Industry it appears to be an all too common course of action for all their green programs.  The acceptability of "Eco-Luxury" properties was just beginning to sneak into the mainstream when the collapse of the economy nearly shut down and basically reversed most of this progress.  Topics: leadership, sustainability        3 Comments Read Full Post
